I’m joining people across the world in sharing paper cranes to honor the victims of the August atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Let’s build a future that is free of the threat of nuclear weapons.

#Oppenheimer started the era of nuclear threat. We can end it! I share this paper crane because a world without nuclear weapons is in our hands.

This year, President Biden and world leaders met on the hallowed ground of Hiroshima to commit to nuclear disarmament. Now, on the anniversary of the atomic bombing, we can show them that we want their words followed by action!

I’m sharing this crane to honor Sadako Sasaki and every victim of nuclear weapons production, testing and use. She deserved to live a life without the harm of nuclear weapons, and so does every child. ☮️

Subject: #CranesForOurFuture: Join a Global Activation This Weekend

Dear ______,

Earlier this year, President Biden and other world leaders met in Hiroshima and reaffirmed their commitment to a world without nuclear weapons. We have an opportunity to show our leaders that we want to see those words matched with action.

Between August 4 and 9, during the anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, will you fold and share a crane on social media with the hashtag #CranesForOurFuture?

To learn how, go to CranesForOurFuture.org.

Together, we can move closer to, not further from, a world without nuclear weapons.

Every year, activists, artists, diplomats, and politicians from around the world join together in August to demand that our leaders forge a path toward a better future–without nuclear weapons–for our loved ones and for future generations. Millions around the world have already witnessed what’s possible when we work together. This year, with your help, we can make sure millions more know they’re not alone in believing that we can have a safer, better world.

Why paper cranes? The origami peace crane is a symbol of peace around the world, thanks to Sadako Sasaki, a child who survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing but lost her life a decade later due to cancer from radiation exposure. She folded more than a thousand paper cranes in the hope that her wish to live would be granted.

Together, we can honor Sadako and all those who have died or suffered from the production, testing, and use of nuclear weapons. The power to craft a better future is in our hands.

Thanks,
